Excellent hotel in the centre of the medieval city of Carcassonne. Although we were in the heart of the city external noise wasn't an issue since we had two sets of double glazed windows.Air conditioning kept the room pleasantly cool. There was a designated free parking place just outside the city walls which was only a short walk from the hotel. Breakfast which was included was taken in the pleasant garden behind the hotel.

There are many restaurants selling tourist food but there are a few gems selling french Cuisine, you don't need to walk more than 100 metres from this hotel to find a good one. check out the menus and the prices and find one that suits you, there are many online guides giving ratings, use them before you travel.

Staff very friendly and helpful at all times, rooms very clean with a maid every day, clean towels etc. free wi-fi gr8 to keep in touch with family who were on holiday elsewhere. Breakfast is a bit poor but could always find something to eat.
Top Tip
Go to new town for bars etc as you are ripped off within the city wall

The hotel is very centrally situated for the Cite. Very welcoming with the organisation for parking the car (free parking outside the city wall and just a few minutes walk to the hotel) and getting the luggage to the room excellent. In my opinion the room is very small for a double - you cannot easily get to one side of the bed and is really a large single room. The bathroom is large with a very good shower. Overall we expected a better size of room from a Best Western Hotel. The rooms all have door closers on them so it can get noisy if people leave the door to close itself. The building is, as with the rest of the area, very old and therefore there are limitations as to the amount of noise insulation that can be undertaken. However, we were woken up on several occasions by what would seem to be doors slamming in the rooms below - a little like the swing doors that are used for kitchen to restaurant access. the noise reverberated up through the floor. In hindsight we should have requested a move since we both had 4 nights of very disturbed sleep. Was also surprised not to see any commitment to reusing towels,or requesting residents to switch off lights, turning down the Air Conditioning in the room etc. The previous hotel we had stayed in had a small hanging notice in the bathroom which was very effective at getting the message across on all the above points.

The Cite gets very crowded even when we were there at the beginning of September. It is very old so therefore its streets are extremely uneven so people who have difficulty in walking may have problems. Selection of restaurants is excellent. We also chose not to have breakfast in the hotel (12 Euro pp) but there were plenty of places who offered Petit Dejeuner for 5 or 6 Euro. We found in every restaurant the people were friendly and helpful

We enjoyed The Brasserie Donjon restaurant right beside the hotel and The Comte Roger at the side of the Hotel on Rue Saint Louis. Both were excellent, the food, service and athmosphere. But be careful as both were closed on Sunday nights. Le Vieux Four also just around the corner on Rue Saint Louis was excellent for Pizza. The airport shuttle service was excellent and ideal for getting to the hotel, no need for a taxi.
